1. Avoid guest bloat

It is very tempting to invite everyone you can to witness you walk down the aisle but remember that is not the goal here. The goal is achieving an excellent wedding inexpensively, sit down and make a list of people you think must be there and those who if they miss it will not be much of a problem. Ask your parents how many guests they are planning to add, make a list for that too, if they are too many, you can politely ask them to reduce the list if they have not told some people already. Remember that the shorter the guest list, the lower the possibilities of using a lot of money.

2. Ask for wedding help instead of wedding gifts

If you for example you have friends who have musical talents, instead of hiring a band for music in your wedding, you can get some help from them. If you have skilled photographers as your friends ask for help instead of gifts from them. Asking your family members and friends for help where they can is an excellent way of keeping your wedding on budget.

3. Hold the ceremony outdoors or at home

Renting a wedding venue that is common with many couples might be very expensive and the wisest idea would be to avoid those venues like a plague if you are on a tight budget. Instead consider holding your wedding in your own home or the home of your parents or maybe a public park where you will not be required to pay a lot of money just to hold a wedding.

You can also decide to go for an outdoor venue but you will have to keep it in mind that the weather can change so have a backup plan just in case. You don’t want to get married in a downpour, do you? Consider hiring some tents to prevent you from getting caught up in the rain or to simply act as a shade in case of serious sunshine.

4. Do the catering yourself or just hire a family owned restaurant

Most of us are actually good “chefs.” You don’t need to hire top chefs who are damn expensive to help you make food during the wedding day. You can get help from your family members and friends and I bet most of them are good chefs too. It will drastically lower the budget for food. If that’s not your forte, maybe you can search around and find a restaurant that is owned by a family and ask the owner if they can directly cater for your wedding at a discounted price.

5. Go minimal with the flowers

The truth is even if you spend hundreds of dollars on flowers, they will die shortly after the reception. Just keep your reception simple yet elegant. For example you can go for a single rose for the bridesmaids and a bouquet for the bride. If you know a person who has a rose bush, you can own a bouquet the day before the wedding by cutting the roses yourself and trimming off the thorns. Another cheap idea is that you can go for fake flowers if you don’t mind. They are a lot cheaper and they will still get the job done.

6. Borrow stereo equipment or just use yours from home

Hiring a DJ is might cost you some good money. If you have some good sound system or you know a friend who does, you can always ask for help. Put the speakers all around the dancefloor, if you don’t have enough speakers to spread over to the reception, don’t worry because it is really not that necessary. Create a playlist from your iPod that will last for hours and enjoy the moment.

7. Buy the dresses off the land on sale

If you want to spend the least on the wedding dress as well as dresses for the bridesmaids, avoid buying custom dresses altogether. Head over to the bridal stores and find if you can get a dress off the rack. Shop ahead of time but only have them try dresses that you only approve. You can even have the bridesmaid wear dresses of particular color that they already own, it works.

8. Rent tuxedos as a group or you can simply wear matching suits

Unless you have a reason to own a tuxedo, renting one should be the primary option. It will be even wiser if you hire the tuxedo as a group as you are going to get a group rate which will help you save some bucks. If you don’t want to go the route of a tuxedo, you can have the groomsmen wear black suits from home, it will save a lot of money as most people already owns black suits.
