Define your content – What am I going to blog about? In order to write you will need something to write about. You may want to write about subjects that you know very well. You can also write about your own ideas on things like: music, politics, relationships, etc.
Set your goals – Why am I blogging? What do I hope to get out of this? You may have to ask yourself, am I doing this for fun? for a cause possibly? for money? Knowing why you’re doing this can help you make plans for success down the road. Also, if you know you’re doing this for fun, you can hold yourself a little less accountable than if you’re doing it for a business.
Be Consistent and Persistent – Have you ever gone to a website and saw that the date on the content said the site hadn’t been updated since the 90’s? Sites like this do not make anyone want to come back often. Make sure you put out fresh content regularly. You may in fact want to set a goal here of 2-3 articles a week. The trick to this is to keep on with it even if no one seems to be coming to your blog and reading. Stay persistent, there are a lot of things going on in the background to eventually lead your readers to you that you may not be aware of.
Open up – Have a 2 way conversation with readers. It helps best to continue a dialog with readers as much as possible. Don’t be afraid to allow comments to your posts. By being open, your readers will eventually become more and more loyal.
Be visible by marketing your blog – Don’t be afraid to let other people know about your blog. You can make use of various social network apps to let everyone know you have something for them to read. Be careful to not overpromote – but if you do, know that it’s better to over-do it than not do it.
Stretch Yourself – As you go along blogging, you’ll eventually read about blogging and hear about new techniques, plugins and themes. Make a note of the ones that sound interesting to you. When you have a chance see if you can incorporate some of them. If you run into technical trouble, seek help from forums or anyone you know who is a successful blogger.
